Gnathology

Gnatology is the medical field that deals with the study and treatment of pathologies affecting the joints of the mouth and all related organs. Gnatology thus addresses various medical issues such as difficulty opening and closing the mouth, facial and neck pain, occlusal headaches that cannot be otherwise explained, bruxism, back, leg, or shoulder pain, deep bite or open bite, tinnitus (ringing in the ears), jaw pain, postural problems, jaw lock, and disorders or issues related to the opening or closing of the mouth.

Often, a properly made and balanced bite guard can significantly improve conditions for patients with joint and muscle problems.
